Summary

  • Experienced Curriculum Developer and Trainer: I have spent almost a decade providing instructional technology training and technical support to higher education institutions, state and federal government agencies, corporations, and organizations around the world. Formats I have worked with include manuals, CD-ROMs, online instruction, and classroom/presentation-based training. I have been involved at many levels in curriculum design projects, including conceptualization, planning, project management, storyboarding, scripting, sequencing the instructional experience, learning objectives, writing content, creating media enhancements, interface design, assessment questions, and learner feedback analysis. Recent technical content areas for which I have designed curricula include web accessibility techniques (Section 508 compliance), XHTML design and templates, Cascading Style Sheets, using content management systems, and systems-approaches to web accessibility in large organizations. Other content areas have included beginning and intermediate Spanish, early childhood literacy, adult literacy, instructional intervention strategies, and immunizations.
  • E-Learning Specialist: I have used—and worked with teams to create—a wide variety of instructional technologies and methods to deliver training at a distance, including live webcasts, semester-based courses, tutorials, online conferences, simulations, multimedia-enhanced content, etc. My university responsibilities have included administration of the Blackboard and Moodle learning management systems for an entire college. I set up the software, customized the interface, created courses, managed user accounts, and provided support to instructors.
  • Accessibility Expert: Since 1999, I have presented and written extensively on the topic of disability access to the web and instructional technologies (e.g. Section 508 compliance) for domestic and international audiences. Many of my articles and tutorials are currently available at www.webaim.org. Among my many projects, I produced “The WebAIM Guide to Web Accessibility,” a CD-ROM which has been used, for example, in university-based courses to teach accessibility within the instructional technology curriculum.
  • Web Applications Architect and Designer: I have worked with teams of programmers, content specialists, and web designers to create complex web-based information and instruction systems. I have worked directly on all aspects of the design, including database schema, user experience, scripting, HTML and CSS, and graphics. During a recent project, I worked with a team to create an extensive, database-driven system for integrating information about courses, instructors, academic programs, degrees, licenses, etc. into the main web site for a college.
  • Graphic Artist and Photographer: My original love is art. I use my artistic skills as a photographer and graphic artist for print and web. I have extensive experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, CorelDRAW, PhotoPaint, and Aperature.
